October 17, 2023: As autumn advances, colors are moving past parts of the state, but even there, there’s beautiful views to be seen. As leaves accumulate on trails and sidewalks, the colors make for a beautiful walk. At scenic vistas, views stretch farther without leaves on the trees. Particularly on days when fog is lifting through the hills, the views can be quite dramatic. While many trees in northern parts of the state have dropped at least some leaves, as well as those in the high elevations, there are still pockets of color to be found in those areas. There are more leaves are on the trees as one moves south, with lots of yellows dotting the hills alongside evergreen trees. There is still fall color out there, go and see it while you can!
Best bets:
- Northern areas – Still some color in areas like Bakersfield and Berkshire.
- Southern areas – Route 7 corridor; Killington (around 1600’); Norwich area. A scenic drive through Manchester, Arlington, and Bennington will afford beautiful views and ample places to stop, sample, and explore.
